Ocean Flow Sculptural Vase
SECONDS | DEFECTIVE PIECE
This handbuilt stoneware vase was inspired by the natural form of a bivalve shell. While creating it, I kept thinking about shells as homes for sea creatures and the quiet parallel they have with our own homes, places of shelter, protection and belonging. The sculptural form follows the shell's natural curves and layered structure, while the warm, yellowish stoneware and dark speckles give the exterior an earthy, understated character.
Tall and sculptural, the vase has an expressive, organic shape that makes it a statement piece even without flowers. Its elongated form and flowing surface details give it a strong connection to the sea while keeping the overall piece contemporary and tactile.
Materials:
- Handbuilt high-fired stoneware
- Glossy blue glaze with flowing surface details
- Sculptural, organic form inspired by bivalve shells
Dimensions:
- Height: ~66 cm (26")
- Width: ~30 cm (11.8")
Please note: This is a one of a kind sculptural piece with a making defect. Fine cracks developed during the making process and have been carefully disguised, so they are not visible on the finished surface. Because of the cracks, this vase cannot safely hold water and is intended for decorative use only. It can be displayed on its own or styled with dried flowers or branches.
The piece is sold as a second at a reduced price because of this defect. Seconds pieces are final sale.
