'Home Within' Sculptural Vase

This handbuilt stoneware vase was inspired by the natural form of a bivalve shell. While creating it, I kept thinking about shells as homes for sea creatures and the quiet parallel they have with our own homes, places of shelter, protection and belonging. The sculptural form follows the shell's natural curves and layered structure, while the warm, yellowish stoneware and dark speckles give the exterior an earthy, understated character.

Inside, a glossy green glaze adds a contrasting detail, almost like a glimpse of the sea held within the shell. I love this piece most as a sculptural object on its own, where the form and surface can be fully appreciated, but it can also be filled with water and used with a single branch or a few simple stems.

• Handbuilt high-fired stoneware
• Natural matte yellowish stoneware with dark speckles
• Glossy green glaze on the interior
• Sculptural, organic form inspired by bivalve shells
